PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Senior Manager Process plant position is to create and guide a strong site processing team able to constantly meet company goals and targets while also improving process operations in a sustainable way. Using the tools at hand, the manager must oversee, prioritize and resolve challenging business issues.

Through the business planning cycles, he or she directs operations over the long term by means of an analysis of patterns and trends in current products, processes or systems across a range of circumstances, hence identifying future results and corrective actions. Under the direction of the four operations managers, he or she is ultimately responsible head of department for processing activities. Important abilities are management team leadership, safety policies, instrumentation, automated plant operations, and a thorough knowledge of the tailings dam management and metallurgical process drivers supporting gold production.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Extractive Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering or Mineral Processing Engineering or other equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least ten years of experience running large-scale processing plants, overseeing plant operations with particular unit operations: Crushing, Milling (Ball and SAG circuits), Leaching and Adsorption (CIL/CIP), Elution (ZADRA and/or AARL), Electrowinning and Smelting, Tailings Storage Facilities and Water Treatment.
    Technical and project experience spanning: Designing and overseeing test work plans for expansion studies.
    Running project trade-off studies.
    Ordering large-scale processing facilities.
    Creating corporate strategies.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Safety Management

  • Advanced understanding and application of Safety Management Systems.

Operations Management (Advanced Application)

  • Advanced application of Business Planning is required.
  • Advanced application of Operational Excellence is required.

Metallurgical Processes and Practices

  • Deep knowledge in the processing science of several unit processes i.e. crushing, milling, leaching, tailings management including fundamental knowledge of process simulation tools.
    Deep knowledge and use of process control and SCADA systems and usage of data analysis tools such as capability histograms, PARETO analysis, EXCEL etc.
    Advanced knowledge and use of Metal Accounting.
    Fundamental knowledge in engineering science.

Tailings Management

  • Advanced understanding of operations of the tailings dam and of the regulations that must be adhered to eg. Freeboard and pool management.

Business Improvement and Planning

  • Deep understanding and application of Business Planning processes
  • Advanced application of Operational Excellence is required.

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Safety Health and Environment:

  • Drive and lead a SHE management system that aims to eliminate injuries and impact to health and environment with the processing plant and TSF.

Production:

  • Maintaining ideal tonnage and recovery under consistent plant conditions with the metallurgical function offering technical direction and support helps to achieve budgeted gold production.
    Maintaining and Reliability: By means of good plant maintenance and reliability tactics, one can attain budgeted plant availability and use.

Cost Management:

  • Manage all processing costs within budgets through vigorous and disciplined cost management practices.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive and lead vibrant and value delivering continuous improvement initiatives across all functions of the process plant.

Business Planning:

  • As part of the annual business planning process, the weekly/monthly planning processes, and the development of capital request justifications, provide reasonable short to medium term business plans for processing activities.

Training, Development and Performance Management:

  • Create and implement training courses meant to address the training requirements found for the process plant staff and finally in charge of performance management of all processing workers. Included will be: departmental succession planning, career development, performance evaluations, goal-setting, production targets, and disciplinary action.
