In the Tarime district of the Mara region, northwest Tanzania, the North Mara gold mine sits. The North Mara gold mine is located approximately 100 kilometers east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometers south of the Kenyan border. 

Commercial production at North Mara began in 2002. The mine operates from two deposits: Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit), making it a mixed open pit and subterranean operation. The processing unit can handle daily ore averages of 8,000 tons.
